Strange as it may sound, this is what the bible says. But please follow as there is a great
lesson for us to behold about God and His Son.
Genesis 5:1-2 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and CALLED THEIR NAME ADAM, in the day when they were created.
The bible says that God called the male and the female “Adam”. That was their “NAME”. How did Eve end up with the name “Adam”?
The lesson to be learnt here is how the male and female reflect the image of God. The bible says that Jesus Christ is “the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature”(Colossians 1:15). It says not only is Christ the “image” of God, but “the express image”(Heb 1:3).
In the beginning “God said let us make Man(Adam) in our image”(Genesis 1:26)
Adam means “Man”
First let’s define the term “Adam”, in Genesis 1:26 we read:
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea
The word “man” in this verse is actually the Hebrew word “Adam”. So it actually can be translated “let us make Adam in our image”. The word Adam describes the nature and substance of which man is. Adama is a Hebrew name that also means “red earth”. Man was formed from the substance of the earth. This is his nature. This is what he is made up of, his substance, his form. He is different than God in respect to his nature, yet Adam is a copy of God in another respect which is seen in the formation of the male and female.
The Nature of God and Nature of Man
The nature of God, and the nature of man are two different things.
1 Corinthians 15:39-40 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. (40) There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
God’s nature is not the same as man’s nature. God’s nature is immortal. God’s nature is not the same as angel’s because we are told that Christ was made “better than the angels”(Heb 1:4) when he “was in the form of God”(Phil 2:6) and was made “lower than the angels”(Heb 2:9) when he“took the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men”(Phi 2:7).
The bible tells us that Christ was also called “Adam” when referring to His nature. In other words Christ was made a man after he was in the form of God since “Adam” means “man”.
1 Corinthians 15:45-47 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. (46) Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (47) The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
There is much more to be said here on the topic of the 2 natures of Christ and the nature of the Spirit in comparison with the nature of sin and the flesh. This study is to give us a proper foundation on this topic since Satan has created lies and snares to divert our minds from these beautiful truths.
In the Beginning….Christ was God…Eve was Adam
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This is a strange concept to many. It is actually as strange to assume that Jesus was God, as it is to assume that Eve was Adam. Yet this is exactly what the bible teaches. We have read that “in the beginning was the woman(Genesis 1) and the woman was with man(Adam) and the woman was Adam(man)(Genesis 1:26, 5:2)”
That’s what Eve was. That was her nature. That’s what Christ was. That was His nature. We are told in John 1:14 that Jesus after being in the form of God, took the form, nature and substance of men.
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh;
There are many lessons here. Clearly Eve is not identified as, or known as Adam. In the same manner Christ and God are distinct personalities and individuals. Christ is not God, and God is not Christ in the sense of identity. Yet Christ was God in the sense of his substance, nature, and form. He was “in the form of God, and equal with God”(Phi 2:6).
To be clear:
What is Christ? God
What is Eve? Adam(man)
Who is Christ? (The only begotten Son of God) “I proceeded forth and came from God… my Father”(John 8:42, 54) Christ is a distinct personality from God.
Who is Eve? (Eve came from the side of the man) Eve is a distinct personality from Adam
For the Angels
Now why did Eve come out of the man? The bible says it was for the angels. The angels weren’t there when Christ came forth from God.
1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
I would like us to read these words carefully. In the divine order God is the head of Christ. There is not 3 divine beings here.
1 Corinthians 11:10-12 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head BECAUSE OF THE ANGELS. (11) Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. (12) For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
God has told us he created man in his image “because of the angels”. The angels were given a lesson in respect to how that God gave his power and authority to His Son Jesus Christ. The woman is of the man, in the same sense that Jesus Christ is of God. And Paul says that everything is of God. Let’s look at a few other passages that Paul sent to the Corinthians respecting the creation:
1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
God’s blessing and Holy Spirit is poured out through His Son Jesus Christ. By beholding the love bestowed in the sacrifice by the Father, we see the love of God.(John 3:16, 1 John 4:9). God the Father said to His Son Jesus Christ “Let us make man in our image”(Genesis 1:26).
Eph 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
God the Father is the only true God, and of him came forth his Son, and also His Spirit, his character, his life, his nature, his substance and form of which Jesus the firstborn of every creature possesses.
Eve Received the “Name” by Inheritance
God called “their name Adam”(Genesis 5:2). After reading the above we see that the “name” refers to the nature of the woman, and not to her identity. In a sense it is a family name, but yet we know the woman as “Eve”. The bible says about Jesus:
Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (10) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (11) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus received a “name” higher than every “name”. It also tells us that we are to confess Christ as “Lord” to the glory of “God the Father”. “We have one God the Father, and one Lord Jesus Christ”. Again God and Christ are distinct personalities and individuals.
But how did Jesus get this name?
Col1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
By birth he possesses the name or nature of the Father. Notice again in Hebrews 1 when referring to how Christ is God we read:
Hebrews 1:1-4 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, (2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (4) Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
And I understand that some after reading these clear words will automatically ignore them and say “Well verse 8 call’s Christ “God””. Yes, it does, because it’s referring to his nature, or name which Christ inherited as the Son of God. Who is the “majesty on high”? Why is Christ sitting on the right hand of the majesty on high? The bible also called Eve “Adam”. But how many will argue with me that Adam is 3 persons(Adam, Eve and the Spirit) just because you have a few verses showing Eve is Adam and Adam has a Spirit or is a Spirit, does that make Adam a trinity?
Some will simplify this to the question “Do you believe Jesus is God?” And I can only reply “Do you believe Eve is Adam?” The bible say’s that she is?(Genesis 1:26, 5:2). The question has 2 answers. Yes, Jesus is God in respect to his nature, but not in respect to his personality or identity. Yes Eve is Adam in respect to her nature, but not in respect to her personality or identity.
May this open up a greater study into the character of God and who He really is, the Father of Jesus Christ, and who Christ really is, what he was, and what he became, and what they really gave to save humanity.
