Mystery Babylon, Greek Philosophy, Skepticism, Doubt, and The UNKNOWN God

The unknown god Skeptical Greek Philosophy led to ignorance and superstitions among the Greeks some of whom set up “an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship.”(Acts 17: 23)

This pagan philosophy, skepticism, and doubt included the thoughts that knowledge of truth was not possible. This thinking was introduced into the church and culminated into the mystery religion of the papacy. A mix of Greek philosophy, skepticism, and doubt which is the opposite of faith. Philosophers like Aristotle, Socrates and Plato taught that doubt and skepticism were the way to knowledge and truth.

This mystery religion was extremely ignorant concerning knowledge of God, believing that God was UNKNOWN, or a mystery. To those in Ephesus where the Greek philosophy and education was prevalent, the following is written by the apostle Paul regarding who God is. We read:

Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

And though God has given knowledge and revelation and an understanding of Him to us today, making known this truth through the word, many still hold to these old Greek philosophies in the church today. We are told that our God is a mystery, that He is not revealed, or that you cannot know God.

“The mystery of the Trinity is the central doctrine of the catholic church. Upon it are based all the teachings of the church” [Handbook for todays Catholic Page 11]

The Philosophical Skeptics of the Word

The word Alphabet is derived of two Greek words, Alpha and Beta, the first two letters in the Greek alphabet. When it comes to knowledge of the alphabet, we know that A is A and not D. There is no need for us to be skeptical about this. We are taught this as children, and by faith we accept it. We do not need to frame doubts about this. It is very similar with the word of God. We can know our God as a Father, and he is revealed through Jesus His son. We are given a revelation of Him through the word of God.

To those in Corinth regarding those who were skeptical Greek philosophers we read:

(2Co 4:4-6)In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Today it is declared by many after the order of the Papacy has filled the christian world with pagan ignorance and skepticism that those who believe a simple reading of the word of God should be cursed or declared to be anathema, and threatened with divine punishment, prohibited and persecuted for not believing in skeptical theories about God, separated from the body. Paul was very clear to the Corinthians about all of these skeptical theories when he explained to them

(1 Cor 8:4-6)As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

We know there is none other God but one, and He is the Father. This is very simple. But Paul was patient and understanding towards those Corinthians who were misled by pagan theories and did not understand that God was the Father of Jesus Christ, and whom had ignorantly worshiped mysterious gods. We read in the next verse “Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge:” (1Cor 8:7) The reason being is that the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe. But God deliver us from this ignorance, for we are told by Jesus that the issue could be life or death.

Joh17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Though there is ignorance regarding knowledge of God, and there is a system of education based on Greek philosophy that has been adopted by the world. We are told that we have to unlearn much of these teachings, and turn from ignorantly worshipping the mystery Gods of Babylon and Greece, turn from the mystery religions of the world. “For we are also his offspring.”(Acts 17:28) and since we are His Children, He therefore must be our Father and not a mystery. God has given you a revelation in the knowledge of Him. He is a single individual with a Son named Jesus.

Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

“Learned men have given lectures in which have been mingled truth and error; but they have unbalanced the minds of those who leaned toward error instead of toward truth. The nicely-woven sophistries of the so-called wise men have a charm for a certain class of students; but the impression that these lectures leave upon the mind is that the God of nature is restricted by his own laws. The immutability of nature has been largely dwelt upon, and skeptical theories have been readily adopted by those whose minds chose the atmosphere of doubt, because they were not in harmony with God’s holy law, the foundation of his government in heaven and earth. Their natural tendency to evil made it easy for them to choose false paths, and to doubt the reliability of both the Old and the New Testament’s records and history. Poisoned with error themselves, they have watched every opportunity to sow the seeds of doubt in other minds. Nature is exalted above the God of nature, and the simplicity of faith is destroyed; for the foundation of faith is made to appear uncertain. Befogged in skepticism, the minds of those who doubt are left to beat on the rocks of infidelity.” {Ellen White YI January 31, 1895, par. 3}

“The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A new organization would be established. Books of a new order would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities, and do a wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the new movement. The leaders would teach that virtue is better than vice, but God being removed, they would place their dependence on human power, which, without God, is worthless. Their foundation would be built on the sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure.” {Ellen White 1 Selected Messages 204-205}

May Father give us a revelation and understanding, so that we can discern this new mystery “religion” that has built her house on sand.
